Westin sponsor young sailing talent

The talent and Olympic ambition of young sailor Oliver Blackburn is being supported by kitchen extraction specialists Westin.

Oliver’s ambition is to represent Great Britain at the Olympics sailing and to win a gold medal. He is just 14 years of age and has been sailing since 3 years old. His most recent achievement is winning the title of North East area champion.

Oliver, from Huddersfield where Westin’s head office is located, was selected for the RYA GBR Junior Topper Zone Squad two years running from the age of 11. This is the first stage in working towards the National Olympic Squad. At the age of 13, he was picked to join the RYA GBR Junior National Intermediate Squad. Last year he was then selected for the RYA GBR Junior National Squad.

Oliver says:

“This will be my last year in a Topper as I will have to move into an Olympic class of boat in order to try to qualify for a transitional squad place. The class of boat that I have chosen is another singlehanded boat called a Laser. I am incredibly grateful to Westin for their financial support and their strong encouragement of me in every race.”

Westin’s Managing Director Ian Sheppard adds:

“As a Huddersfield manufacturing business with long standing roots in the community, we are keen to encourage and applaud the talent of a young local lad. We think Oliver will go all the way and are proud to support him.”
