natural light

Tom Edmonds and Neil Matthews of Lewis Alderson & Co were tasked with the design and creation of a beautiful luxury kitchen space in a stunning, fully refurbished London property

The six-bedroom Victorian property in the London borough of Wandsworth was fully rebuilt other than the listed front façade, to provide a spacious luxury family home. The entire lower rear area of the property was opened up to include a large open plan kitchen with dining area, and large glazed doors leading to the outside dining area and landscaped gardens ensured that the whole space was flooded with natural light.

neutral tones

To compliment the abundance of light, the team at Lewis Alderson & Co specified beautiful neutral cabinetry tones and reflective stainless steel appliances and work surfaces.

The large U-shaped kitchen Tom and Neil designed, maximises the height and space with floor to ceiling cabinetry.  The design cleverly conceals two larder cupboards and a ‘hidden’ door which leads to the side of the house.  The stunning roof lantern floods the room with light at night, highlighting the hand-turned legs on the island unit and stunning ‘Conran’ high stools.

The elegant hand-painted colour scheme was given a contemporary edge by the inclusion of brass handles and hinges.

To complement the brushed stainless steel Gaggenau cooking appliances and worktop, Westin were commissioned to manufacture a bespoke wall mounted hood that would perfectly fit next to the adjacent wall cupboards and accommodate the furniture coving across the top to accentuate the built-in feel.

The parameters for the hood were set by the width of the hob and the surrounding cabinetry. Two horizontal bands were added to the plinth of the hood to add to the classic shape, and to ensure perfect continuity, a matching Westin stainless splashback was included with a shallow shelf above the hob, a detail inspired by commercial kitchens the client had seen.

The result

The result is a stunningly classical bespoke kitchen, with contemporary styling and attention to detail by Lewis Alderson & Co, who have created a stunningly luxurious yet practical kitchen for a busy family within a fabulous home.
